Effects of morphine upon the isolated small intestine of rats, rabbits and guinea pigs.

چکیده
Recently HUKUHARA, KOTANI and SATO7) found that morphine always exerted an excitatory action on the motility of dog jejunal Thiry-loop, literature concerned being reviewed there. They drew a conclusion that morphine acted as an excitant to the intestinal muscle itself, since it could raise the intestinal motility after atropine as well as hexamethonium had been administered and on the other hand it could augment the motility of the aganglionic loop. On the isolated guinea-pig small intestine, however, TRENDELENBURG15) concluded that the inhibition was the usual effect of morphine upon the socalled peristalsis'. This conclusion was supported by subsequent investigators.1, 9,10, 11,12) Our doubts were then cast upon the problem whether the discrepancy existing between our results and the investigators mentioned above could, in fact, be attributable to the species difference or not. In order to solve this problem the effects of morphine upon the motility of the isolated small intestine of rats, rabbits and guinea pigs were studied. In the present experiments the action of drugs was judged by observing the rhythmic contraction waves, which were recorded by means of MAGNUS' as well as TRENDELENBURG's method. That the so-called peristalsis was nothing but an enhanced rhythmic contraction wave was emphasized in the report published recently8).

Evaluation the Efficacy of Anthrax Vaccine against Challenge with a Highly Virulent Strain of Bacillus anthracis Isolated from Soil in Sheep, Goats and Guinea Pigs in Iran
Protection of animals immunized against Bacillus anthracis is usually demonstrated by challenging with an appropriate dose of a strain of Bacillus anthracis that is lethal to unvaccinated animals inoculated at the same time. In this study the protective efficacy in anthrax vaccine (34F2 sterne strain spore) was evaluated in sheep, goats and guinea pigs challenged with subcutaneous inoculation...

Inhalational insulin was withdrawn from the market due to its potential to produce airway hyper-reactivity and bronchoconstriction. So the present study was designed to explore the acute effects of insulin on airway reactivity of guinea pigs and protective effects of salbutamol and ipratropium against insulin induced airway hyper-responsiveness on isolated tracheal smooth muscle of guinea pig. ...
متن کاملThe activity of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase in the small intestine of some species of animals at different stages of growth.
The activity of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GTP), the key enzyme of gamma-glutamyl cycle, was studied in the intestine of new born, suckling and adult animals (rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits). In all the four species, the activity of GTP was greater in new borns than in adults. The activity was highest in rats and almost negligible in guinea pigs.
متن کاملA Survey on the Gastrointestinal Parasites of Rabbit and Guinea Pig in a Laboratory Animal House
There is documented evidence that infection in laboratory animals can often influence the outcome of experiments. All infections, apparent or inapparent, are likely to increase biological variability. As a research project concerning the diversity and distribution of parasites of rabbit and guinea pig in a conventional laboratory animal house, about 87 rabbits (from 700 ) and 105 guinea pigs (f...
متن کاملPURIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF PROTEIN ANTIGENS ISOLATED FROM MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS (H37Rv STRA IN) AND THEIR EFFECTS ON CELL-MEDIATED IMMUNE RESPONSES IN GUINEA PIGS
Mycobacterium tuberculosis (H37Rv strain) was used in this study. The bacterial cells were disintegrated by sonication. The separation and characterization of the soluble molecules were attempted by various techniques including gel filtration, ion exchange chromatographies and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, using SDS and 2ME. Eight protein molecules with molecular weights ranging from...
